Japan's Earliest Summer !! Yaeyama's Beach Opening

March 21, 2010 Beginning this year, Japan's earliest "beach opening" celebration will be staged at Taketomi Island's Kondoi Beach!

Customarily the first celebration in Japan marking the start of the beach season, this event in the Yaeyama Islands starts Okinawa on its course to advance the spirit of summer in earnest. At the new staging ground for this event, Taketomi Island's Kondoi Beach, there will be a formal proclamation marking the season's start, and then many of the participants will take their first dip. After that the year's Misses Yaeyama will be presented to the gathered crowd. Nearby there is an area where visitors can participate in water sports activities. This event, with its full program and the chance get the first dip in the sea, enjoys high popularity.
