Impact of the 2011 Tohoku Pacific Earthquake on Okinawa Prefecture
The earthquake which occurred off the Pacific coast of the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011 has done massive damage to the areas around the epicenter. Nations around the world have stepped in and offered significant amounts of assistance, and the Japanese government and the residents of Japan have been making every effort to overcome this crisis.
1.Impact of the earthquake on Okinawa Prefecture
No damage has been done in Okinawa. Okinawan residents are carrying on with their lives as usual.
Okinawa Prefecture is far away from the epicenter and no earthquakes or aftershocks have been recorded in the prefecture.
All the tsunami warnings and alerts were lifted at 20:20 pm on March 12, 2011, Japan time. Currently we are not expecting any tsunami in Okinawa Prefecture.
(3)Nuclear Plant Accident
Okinawa Prefecture is 1,760km(1,100miles) away from the nuclear plant and it is not within the exclusion zone, which is within a radius of 30km(19 miles) from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
(4)Air/sea travel to/from Okinawa and tourist facilities in the prefecture
All air routes and sea routes to/from Okinawa are available as usual. All transportation systems, tourist facilities including shops, restaurants and hotels in Okinawa are operating as normal.
